(More customer reviews)After two weeks the first spring broke; a day later the second; repaired with rubber bands as item has no warranty; band repair lasted two months with many band replacements; then the plastic started breaking and now has completely failed and no other repairs are possible - only two months use with us as the repair authority (replacing the springs would have cost several times the unit for S & H). Would have purchased a different one if I had known it was so incredibly wear inferior to minimal play use.

(More customer reviews)Horrible, horrible graphics.The video setup of this program only supports old, old video cards -- Voodoo fx nd Banshee.I had a Voodoo card -- bout 12 years ago! On a good nVidia card, game does not work except in a tiny window.You can get it in full screen mode, but it does stranges things.Whoever wrote the software obviously is way out of touch with graphics programming on modern graphics chips.I got two games from COSMI and they are both very amateurish in design and support.Stay away from this company.The box is pretty -- maybe the box is worth 50 cents.

Set in the future, the Liandri Mining Corporation sponsors a bloodthirsty tournament to determine who is the most powerful hunter in the universe.Across scores of diverse arenas - from derelict space stations to gothic cathedrals - combatants duke it out.
This 2 CD set comes packed with over 50 awesome maps, several gameplay mods, and some of the best multiplayer action available anywhere.On most modern computers, the framerate is solid.The additional OpenGL patch also enables mipmapping and other neat graphical effects.Most of the game's environments are comprised of a very low number of polygons, and yet appear extraordinarily rich and detailed.Even the music is great and quite listenable outside of the game!
Gameplay is simple with the typical WASD + Mouselook control scheme.Most of the game's weapons have dual-fire modes and some, such as the Shock Rifle, allow you to create deadly combo attacks.You'll pick up the controls in no time.
Plus, they throw in the amazingly comprehensive UnrealEd map editor so you can create your own maps!The designers of the game have clearly dedicated themselves to giving the Unreal community many tools to create new Unreal experiences.All over the Internet, there are tutorials, forums, and archives of great user-made content.From hundreds of additional maps to lengthy single-player campaigns replete with storylines, you can spend coutnless hours exploring all of the free additional content available on the Internet.
Unreal Tournament 2003 was the successor to this game and although it brought vastly improved graphics, I think that the original UT still has better gameplay and a more solid feel.Try it for yourself and see what you think.
The only real con to this game is that it takes a while to set it up properly, but this is due to the sheer amount of content that exists for it.Not only is there a patch to fix gameplay bugs, but there are also four excellent "bonus packs" of textures and maps you can download for free.The UMOD installer system, however, makes it very easy to install these and other add-ons.Simply click on the .umod file and UT will take care of the rest.When playing multiplayer, mods and maps you don't have are automatically downloaded for you.
I was a latecomer to the Unreal scene, but I instantly fell in love with this series after buying this title on impulse for ten bucks.It truly is one of the most fantastic games I've ever played, which says a lot considering I own dozens.For hours of non-stop enjoyment and entertaining, you simply cannot beat this game.Worth every penny and then some.

Sudden Strike 2 (Windows) Review

(More customer reviews)This game is fun. Tanks and all sort of vehicles are well reproduced and sound real. Airplanes drop off paratroopers and boats land with marines like in a movie. Soldiers look maybe too small. They fight and die like little ants in a splatter cartoon. The idea of using enemy's stuff like guns and jeeps is great and adds a special "something". The scenarios are well conceived and maps are a joy for the eyes.But the longevity of the game looks to me pretty short. It is true that the editor gives you the possibility of designing new scenarios, but...don't get confused: the editor is not so friendly as they say and the several scenarios you can download from the net are difficult to understand unless you speak german. After all I find it better than Close Combat, because it's 3D, because tanks sound so real, because all vehicles and maps look so good. The IA is not too challenging though and you may prefer to fight in the multi-player option. SSII is fun but the best is yet to come. You may prefer to wait for an Age of Empire "The rise and fall of the III Reich" edition.

Shadowgate Review

(More customer reviews)Knowing how far video games have come in the past few years, it is easy to forget the classics. "Shadowgate" is considered by many to be one of the best and most innovative RPGs of it's time, and is still a hot item amongst older gamers (like me) to this day.
You are an adventurer who is on a quest to stop the evil Warlock Lord, who has the power to destroy humanity. So you enter Castle Shadowgate in order to seek out the Warlok Lord and end his reign. Of coarse, nothing come easy. You encounter dangerous beasts, ghosts, and if you fail, death himself. You also have to solve mind-bending puzzles, which is the main appeal of this game. You have to rely more on your brains and wits rather than your sword. The game is quite difficult the first time through, and will definitely keep you busy for a few days at least. But there in lies the big flaw in "Shadowgate". There is no replay value. Once you have beaten the game, you know all the secrets and can easily breeze through the second time around. I beat this game in two weeks, but the second time I beat it in less than 45 minutes. But considering the age of this game, it is not a huge downer. It is still a fun trip down memory lane.
In terms of graphics, they are great by NES standards. The colors and textures add depth to any given situation, while the music also compliments the mood. Since this is an old-school RPG, the emphasis is more on story and puzzles rather than action and fighting.
For games who want to experience games from their childhood, or see where games like "Final Fantasy" came from, you should check out "Shadowgate".

Thomas and Friends: Trouble on the Tracks Review

(More customer reviews)There have been some criticisms of the other Thomas PC games as far as their ability to run on computers with Windows XP (a lot of the Thomas games were created during the Windows 98 days prior to Windows XP) so I was a bit hesitant to purchase this - then again they were selling used editions of the game at four dollars and a penny (including shipping and handling) so I figured it was an acceptable risk... for the most part it runs fine on Windows XP Home edition (which according to some accounts is simply an enhanced version of Windows 98) - I can't vouch for whether or not it would run on Windows XP Professional and / or Windows 2000 or Windows Vista however... my 4 year old loves this game (he particularly enjoyed watching the "3D" versions of Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt come to life on the PC and he enjoys playing the mini-games that advance the storyline) but he needs some help playing it, my 6 year old also likes it and for the most part can play it by herself... Windows XP has some problems with the "print out a certificate" part of the game and the website listed on the instructions for the game is non-existent but my little ones don't mind (they ignore that part of the game entirely)... if you have a little one interested in Thomas, you're running Windows XP Home on your PC (or Windows 98/95 though that's a rare operating system to find nowadays) and you can find another used copy for five dollars I'd say it's well worth the price.
(update) - I forgot to mention this in my review - I found when running this game on Windows XP Home Edition, every time you play the game you will receive a few error messages to the effect that the game cannot find the printer spool settings - you can bypass these error messages by just hitting the enter key on your keyboard a few times, after that the game will run normally.Don't let this scare you away - it's an easy enough problem to solve and other than that the game runs perfectly (on Win XP Home at least), if you're running that or Windows 98/95 and can find a used copy for five dollars by all means purchase this game if you have Thomas fans at home - given how simple the game is though I wouldn't recommend spending more than seven or eight dollars (maximum) including shipping and handling on it.
