(More customer reviews)the neo geowas ahead of its time.during the reign of the genesis, nes, snes, turbo grafx 16the neo geo AES came outyou know the over 600 dollar system (back in the late 80s this was almost unheard of for a system)and it had those HUGE cartridgeswhich were basically the actual program from the arcade game making for a faithful translation...

but due to slow sales(due to price)snk, deceided to make a less expensive high quality gaming system to do this they put their games on cd format which was still new at that time. this meant more data could be stored for better graphics etcand thusthe neo geo cd system was born.

this system also has in my opinion some of the best built gamepads around...they can really take rigerous game play and then some...in the same tradition as their huge arcade sticks

this is a great import systemwith a lot of great games..such as aero fighters, samurai showdown,as well as others...the only thing was that it had a slower load timebut it really wasnt that bad.

to sum it upif your looking for a great neo geo system...this is it :)

The Neo Geo CD was released in 1994, four years after its cartridge-based equivalent, in an effort to reduce manufacturing costs. The system was originally priced at US$300 new. The unit's 1X CD-ROM drive was quite slow, making loading times very long with the system loading up to 56 Mbit of data between loads. Neo Geo CD game prices were lowered to a reasonable $50 as opposed to the usual cost for AES game cartridges, sometimes upwards of $300. The system could be used to play Audio CDs.The Neo Geo CD comes with a control pad instead of the joystick that is in other Neo Geo systems. This made the controls more stiff and caused some difficulty in play if one was used to the joystick.Ultimately, the Neo Geo CD was considered poor, mainly because of the lack of marketing and the long load times.
