Double Dragon II: The Revenge Review

Double Dragon II: The Revenge
Average Reviews:

Anyone that has a Nintendo Entertainment System and two controllers should have this game. It's a co-op beat-em-up and one of the finest 8-bit games ever created. You play as one of two brothers looking for your kidnapped girlfriend.

The levels are great. You fight through factories, car lots, and rooftops. The rooftops has to be one of the best levels on the game as it contains a platform feeling to it. The game features a variety of weapons, from knives to baseball bats. Nothing says beat-em-up though like team damage and throwing your friend off a building to his death. The only awkward thing with the game is the kicking. When you kick, you are actually kicking backwards. It's not a glitch, but it's something that has to get used to.

The game is fairly long and difficult, but not too difficult where you can't complete the game. The ending is extremely hard, but that's how games worked back then: hard bosses. Any fan on beat-em-ups, arcade games, or co-op gameplay will enjoy the magic displayed in this classic game.

Double Dragon II Review

Double Dragon II

This game is fantastic, it took everything fun about Double Dragon, amplified it added some good challenge, more characters and better graphics. Its a similtaneous cooperative beat-em up / brawling game starring Billy and Jimmy Lee as they take on wave after wave of gang members. The two use their fists, feet, spinning tornado kicks and weapons like whips, barrels, bats, grenades and knives. You start with all of the moves unlike the original game.

Another thing that makes the game great is the differing areas. The first place is a construction site that turns from 3D area to a 2D side scroller as you climb the building. That way you cannot dodge foes as easily. The second level is completely 2D, the third level takes place in a helicopter as enemies and sometimes you get sucked out the door and die. The forth level is a dangerous and challenging 2D fortress. I won't mention any of the other levels, but each level brings out more fun and challenge to this great game.

Its a great game to play with a friend with 2 player mode A where you can't hurt one another and its even more challening with 2 player mode B where the players can injure each other. This game is a classic and either the #1 or #2 game of the franchise. Probably one of the top 3 beat-em ups for the NES in general.

Battletoads Review

Battletoads

At the time this game was notorious for its inability of most of the general public to get past level 3.Most kids at the time just couldn't.And for a game that has it's content so well designed for kids (a TMNT rip-off, 'toad tongue-in-cheek) this is unfortunate since the dynamics of each of the 12 levels are incredibly varied.Really the game itself isn't a kid's difficulty level.I've heard many deem it the TOUGHEST NES game ever, arguably more so than even Metroid.Because much of it can only be done from memorizing the map (like dodging walls in the speeder / level 3), it will invariably take a few games PER LEVEL.There are no passwords although there are warps (a real gamer won't need them). There's many, many highlights beyond 'level 3' - the Surf level, the giant snakes, the Elevator Shaft, and if you're lucky, the Dark Queen's tower. You'll be doing anything from fighting 'Double Dragon' style to Castlevania-platforming to dodging obstacles in your plane, unicycle, speeder, whatever. The monsters and sense of humor the game provides make the whole thing move magnificently + STILL make me wonder if this has a cancelled cartoon show pilot somewhere...

This game is a simple fighting game with the turtles as the fighters, i loved this game when i was younger and its still one of my favorites. The best part is if you fight against your friends as casey jones, or the best Shredder.

Kung Fu Review

Kung Fu

I ordered this game from a seller on Amazon, and it wasn't in the best condition.I had to put the cartridge in the system a few times and turn it off and on until it worked well enough to play.

This made me realize, "Wow.This game may one day go extinct."I'm sure its available on some emulators somewhere, or maybe one of those 120 games in 1 deals, but it just loses its significance when its not in cartridge form I think.

So playing this again 20 years after I rented it and finally beating the thing (yeah, I'm going to count Game A as winning because Game B is just too darn hard) was actually somewhat depressing for me.Stuff that I once experienced as brand new is deteriorating with age.As fun as Kung Fu is to play, who's going to go out of their way to hunt this obsolete title down when they have the newest Final Fantasy games flashing in their faces?

This is definitely one of the best games on the most important video game system ever made. Its very, very easy to play.Perhaps one of the easiest to play games you'll ever find, other than Cruisin' USA.Jumping can be somewhat of a pain but other than that the controls are very smooth.Dodging attacks can be extremely tough but the ease of the controls helps you out a whole lot. That's the main thing that makes this such a great game.Quality controls.I even like its classic first-generation NES graphics. Its just like Excitebike.

But, like I said, the newer games with the better graphics and enhanced play control options (lets face it, you can do more things with 8 buttons on a control pad than 2) are now greatly overshadowing simple games like this one.Not that that's a bad thing. Its just nice to feel stuck in time every once in a while...

Wrestlemania Review

Wrestlemania
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Good - There are some decent graphics, with pretty detailed caricatures of the Superstars (but where's the crowd?). Each wrestler has his own completely unique moveset, strength, and speed, so it actually does matter which Superstar you choose as your own. You won't see The Honky Tonk Man slamming Andre the Giant on this game.

The Bad - The gameplay itself is slow and the controls aren't very responsive. The sound (including theme music) is just okay. There aren't any wrestling moves on this game (other than the "bodyslam", which is simply an ugly-looking pick-up and throw-down). The computer is also quite difficult (read: cheap), especially when you face off with stronger characters. In addition, there are only six wrestlers here: Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, The Honky Tonk Man, and Bam Bam Bigelow.

The Ugly - The "bodyslam", as mentioned. With its emphasis on brawling tactics, power-ups, and the fact that a wrestler only stays down when he is completely out, WrestleMania resembles a second-rate fighting game more than a wrestling game. It's also frustrating to play and probably wouldn't have been a hit if not for the novelty of finally having WWF/E wrestlers on the NES.

Recommendation to avoid.

Product Description:
All wrestlers possess a limited amount of moves, which comprise of basic standing punches and kicks, headbutts, a running attack, a move off the turnbuckle (which André the Giant and Bam Bam Bigelow cannot perform), and a bodyslam (which Bam Bam Bigelow and Honky Tonk Man cannot perform). All wrestlers also possess a "back attack" that they can use on an opponent standing behind them (usually a backwards punch). The moves themselves are somewhat tailored to each wrestler (Randy Savage, for example, uses elbow smashes instead of punches, while Bam Bam Bigelow has two running attacks instead of one). It is also worth noting that only Hulk Hogan is able to bodyslam the massive André the Giant. The wrestlers cannot leave the ring and can only execute turnbuckle attacks from the bottom two corners. Sometimes, while a wrestler is taking punishment, he will turn red, indicating anger. An "angry" wrestler can inflict more damage than normal while in this state. Occasionally, during a match, an icon will come on screen that a wrestler can pick up to gain health. The icons are unique to each wrestler (for example, Honky Tonk Man's looks like a guitar, while Hulk Hogan's looks like a crucifix) and cannot be used interchangeably (wrestlers can only pick up their own icons).Players can either play a single exhibition match (one player versus the computer or two players head-to-head) or a tournament. In a single player tournament, the player chooses one wrestler and must defeat the other five in a series of matches to win the championship. In a tournament with two or more player-controlled wrestlers (up to six can play), each wrestler faces every other wrestler once (fifteen total matches). At the end of the tournament, the wrestler with the best record wins the championship. In the event of a tie, the wrestler in the tie who achieved the single fastest victory during the tournament will be declared the winner.
